Center for Culinary Arts-Manila’s Wine Appreciation Workshop
The Center for Culinary Arts-Manila, the country’s premier formal culinary school will be conducting a wine course dubbed as Wine Appreciation Workshop, at C3 Events in San Juan on April 21.The event will be handled by no less than wine connoisseur/expert Sherwin Lao.
He will teach the participants how to evaluate wine through the senses of sight, smell, taste and touch. Students will also learn how to judge premium wines and differentiate Old World and New World wines and read labels.
I will differentiate the two wine, this one I read from an article written by Mr. Lao himself. Old World wine refers to countries that have been producing wine for centuries. France is the largest wine producer in the world. This means that European wines are Old World. They also carry regional names like Bordeaux for example.
On the other hand, New World wines are those from countries that have been in the business only in the last century or so. The United States started wine production after the prohibition in 1935. South America only got going during the later stage of the last century. New world wine derived its names from grape varietals.
JB Bolanos, marketing manager of CCA-Manila told me via email that they chose to kick off with wine since Fiipino dining experience is not complete without the right beverage or wine. They felt that educating the public about wine will be helpful, not only in completing the dining experience, but also in the realization of their careers.
There you have it guys. I hope you have a preview at least of what Manila’s Wine Appreciation Workshop will be. Let’s all drink to that! And hoping still that you will still get a slot since it is limited to 25 students only. So you better hurry up!
